The Keilor Little Athletics Centre (KLAC) is affiliated with Little Athletics Victoria (LAVic) and its Northern Metropolitan Region. The competitive year is divided in to two seasons: Track & Field (Sept – March); and Cross Country (April /May- August). KLAC runs a weekly competition during the track & field season at the Keilor Park Athletics Track, Stadium Drive, Keilor Park. KLAC also participates in open days, LAVic regional and state championships under the banner, Team Keilor.
Weekly Competition @ KLAC
Our Centre runs a weekly track and field competition (mid Sept – March) usually on Saturday mornings starting at 9:00am sharp. Check out our calendar to confirm competition dates and start times and our frequently asked questions for a better understanding of how our competitions run.
Under 6 & 7 athletes participate in an On Track skills based program for approx. 45 minutes and compete in three events up until XMAS. In the new year the On Track program ceases and U6 & 7 athletes join the full competitive program.
Under 8 to 16 athletes participate in a full competitive program consisting of 5-6 events, including sprints, hurdles, middle distance (800/1500m- U9+), race walks, throws (shot put, discus, & javelin – U11+) and jumps (long jump, triple jump & high jump – U9+) . We also run steeplechase, including the water jump, a couple of times a season!
Important Note: This year we require athletes and parents to arrive for competition between 8:30am-8:45am. Parents on duty must sign-in with the duty roster manager before 8:45am. At 8:45am all parents on duty will receive a short briefing/instructions on running their event for the morning. At the same time all athletes will be invited to complete an instructor led warm-up between 8:45am – 9:00am. Athletes will be sent straight to their events from the warm-up.
KLAC Championship and Tim Golder 100m & Warren Hosking 800m Handicaps
Our track & field season culminates with our Centre championships. Athletes will need to enter the championships and eligibility requirements apply. Refer to the Centre Handbook and the Centre Championship page on this website for further information.
During our end of season Presentation Day we hold the very prestigious Tim Golder 100m & Warren Hosking 800m Handicaps. A starting position in the handicaps are highly sought after and as they are handicap events all athletes have a chance of winning these prestigious titles.
Championships include: relays; track & field; multi-event; & cross country. Championship events are available to U9-16 athletes and we strongly encourage all our athletes, regardless of ability, enter regional events. After all it’s about participation and doing your personal best.
Information for the championships is available in the Special Events section of this website. Also worth checking the championships section of LAVic’s website from time-to-time for championship info and online entry.
Other LAVic Centres host open days throughout the season which are open to all LAVic members from any other Centre, including ours. Usually athletes will need to enter directly with the hosting Centre. There are relay, multi-event and track and field open days almost every other weekend. Team Keilor enters the Box Hill relay open day each year as a good practice before the regional relay championships.
Winter Season – Cross Country (May to August)
