Congratulations to TEAM KEILOR on winning
10 GOLD medals and 2 Silver medals at the State Relays.
Well well well….aren’t you all just proud as punch…….and if you aren’t – you better be! Finishing off in top place on the medal tally, it doesn’t get much better than this! One word – WOW! It doesn’t happen often….but, I was speechless when I first heard….and then I kept having to look at my phone to check out the results again….and again.
I am told that this is the first time in the Centre’s history that we have finished on the top of the medal tally – still getting goose bumps at the thought…..it’s a pretty special achievement. Congratulations to all involved.
For the folks that weren’t there on Saturday – Team Keilor flew…….athletes – you all made us so proud. What a great effort to finish off a fantastic relay season.
There is a bit of work in the background prior to the commencement of the relay season. This year was great – we had a great bunch of coaches ready to go before we even started the season. These coaches have spent huge amounts of time – living, eating, breathing, sleeping and dreaming relays…..for your kids to compete, it has been a big commitment of their time and sanity – so make sure you thank our coaches folks…….it’s not an easy role.
….did I tell you – First place on the medal tally! ……..
This year’s relay season was one of the best seasons that I have been involved in my time at Keilor. We had our first ever Keilor Relay Day as a prelude to the Northern Metropolitan Relay Championships. This was the perfect start – giving our kids a practice run before the real thing. It was great to see different clubs participating……we’ve shown them we can do it – now bring it on for next year ! I felt proud when I rocked up at the relay day – we had clubs from all over, it was unreal to see and be a part of. Congratulations to all those involved in the organising of this day – you did great!
And then – ‘sigh’……the Northern Metropolitan relay Championships. What an amazing day. It was always going to be a great day considering the size of our team. We were one of the larger teams in NMR…….(which is a testament to our coaches – who were organised and hit the ground running as soon as the season commenced). What a day it was – everywhere I looked…….I saw black and white. It was fantastic to see such a big turnout. It seemed the only colour I saw when I looked at the podium was Black and White. The Team Keilor support camp was a pleasure to be a part of – I love watching the kids interact with each other and everyone cheering the athletes on, it really is a great environment to spend the day.
For those that have not been involved in relays, each year in December – as a culmination to the relay season – we have the State Championships. This is where it all leads up to. We were in the top 3 biggest Centres at the State Championships, having 40 teams competing, a great achievement in itself even before we consider our medal tally. – athletes, I hope you are all proud to be a part of the team – congratulations athletes and coaches and everyone involved.
What a day it was! How exciting to be there……..I couldn’t leave. To be a part of the Team Keilor cheer squad was just so much fun. Every time we had a team running…..everyone would stop………if you knew the runner running……it was ‘Go Jamie’…or…..’Go Finn’…….but if you didn’t know their name – it was ‘Go Keilor’……..and everyone stopped whatever they were doing to cheer our kids on – each race just as exciting as the next.
Congratulations and well done to all our athletes and coaches involved in a great day. Whilst it wasn’t a podium finish for all of our teams – you were all pretty special!. We had some tears, we had some close finishes and we had the jubilation of medal wins, each of you did Keilor proud and it was great to be a part of the cheer squad.
For those of you that haven’t cottoned on yet…..we finished up First place on the medal tally! FIRST! WOW! Did you think a little centre like ours could do that?……ok, ok – we aren’t so little…….but you have to admit…….it’s pretty cool.
Our MEDAL winning teams were :
Under 10 Boys: 4 x 200m & Medley
Under 14 Boys: 4 x 100m & Medley
Under 14 Mixed: 4 x 100m & 4 x200m
Under 15 Girls: 4 x 200m & Medley
Under 15 Mixed: 4 x 100m & 4 x 200m
Under 10 Boys: 4 x 100m
Under 14 Girls: 4 x 100m
10 Gold – 2 Silver…..top of the medal tally. Did you get that? Team Keilor! Congratulations to all involved.
Myself and our Team Manager (who I must say – did a great job…….Thank you Michelle) would like to thank all parents and families who supported the teams and an extra thanks to the parents who fulfilled duties during the day.
And, once again another big thank you to our dedicated coaches for all their hard work in training over the past few months. Their encouragement and guidance has seen the development and growth of all the athletes and enabled Keilor to achieve the great results this year
And before I go….we must farewell our under 15 athletes and coaches who have passed the Baton for their final time with Team Keilor. Congratulations on being a part of the team and thank you all for your time and effort during your time with Keilor.
And that’s it folks…..Team Keilor – you did us all proud (as you always do). What an amazing relay season and a brilliant result to finish off.
