Picture this……it was the Centre walk past and official opening….teams were gathering on the track with their club flags and club banners. Being totally new to the role of team manager at a state event….I was a bit slow on the uptake and wasn’t really taking note of the gathering of athletes happening on the track.
I was approached by a couple of the Under 11 girls asking if they were allowed to take part and could they grab a flag. I quickly registered that it was me that was the one to say yes……..so we grabbed the flag and off they went. I watched as the girls proudly marched the flag down the stairs and gathered their friends on the way. The excitement must have been contagious….as the following of Keilor athletes kept growing with athletes of all ages taking part.
Watching those excited athletes holding their team flags high and marching with their friends and team mates laughing and chatting as they walked amongst each other– it put a smile on all our faces. Team Keilor was there amongst it, enjoying the occasion and having a ball.
Team Keilor – you were fantastic on the day. Congratulations to all involved on Saturday and the entire relay season. It is a massive team effort, from athletes, parents, coaches, organisers and extended family and friends. Whilst it was a lot of work, you have to admit it……you all enjoyed it. I know I did – I had a ball!
I have always said that relays are a great opportunity for making new friendships – athletes and parents alike. To see athletes of different ages hanging out, chatting and having fun during the day was such a lovely thing to be a part of. I love the rapport amongst the parents and laughing at each other when we get a bit excited and perhaps even lose our voices cheering for a race. Under 12 parents – you were my favourite this year…..the cheering (or screaming and yelling as some would say) as they won that medal – that was hilarious! I loved it!
Congratulations athletes, you put in your best and did us all proud. To see you all out on the track running your hardest, and then some more – such an amazing effort…..goosebumps every time I tell you. Well done to all athletes that competed.
